Why Does Employee Engagement Matter at Modern Workplaces?

Employee engagement can significantly boost an organization’s productivity and workforce performance. But, are employers listening to what their employees?

According to the latest research, employers and employees fail to communicate their intent and interests. And, even when their company “listens”, only half of the employees believe their company hasn’t made positive changes based on feedback. When realities strike, employees begin to lose trust in the company.

Qualtrics XM for Employee Experience understood the gaps and added new-age AI capabilities to build deeper connections between a company and its employees. Wojtek Kubik, Head of Product, Employee Experience at Qualtrics said, “These new generative AI capabilities empower companies to harness AI’s potential in a safe and responsible way. Organizations can now extract insights faster through advanced summaries, interact seamlessly with data using a natural language copilot for deeper comprehension, and elicit more comprehensive team responses.”

Qualtrics Assist for Employee Experience empowers leaders to grasp and respond effectively to employee feedback at each level of the managerial hierarchy.

Numerous individual contributors find themselves under the guidance of first-time managers who often face challenges in understanding and responding to employee feedback. This struggle typically stems from their limited experience and technical skills. Complex or overly detailed team dashboards can mask the true sentiment of the team and obscure potential areas for improvement. Additionally, a sluggish review process can result in overlooked feedback and unresolved issues lingering for too long.

What is Qualtrics Assist for Employee Experience?

Qualtrics Assist for Employee Experience is an AI-driven dashboard tool designed to deliver quick insights into employee experience data for analysts, managers, and leaders. This resource enables managers and team leaders to delve into their team’s data by posing straightforward questions like, “What topics should I address in my next team meeting to enhance collaboration?” or “What themes are most frequently mentioned in the open comments?”

With guided prompts, managers can navigate and comprehend their data more deeply, focusing on key areas for improvement.

Qualtrics Assist pinpoints the most pertinent employee engagement data and incorporates proprietary, research-supported industry benchmarks, methodologies, and best practices. This process simplifies complex data into clear insights, actionable recommendations, and suggested steps for improvement.

Adding Qualtrics Comment Summaries to Improve Feedback Management

AI-generated Comment Summaries reveal unique team dynamics through the analysis of open-text feedback.

Wojtek Kubik, Head of Product for Employee Experience at Qualtrics, added his insights to the new AI tool.

Wotjek mentioned that while personal comments from employees can provide valuable insights, the sheer volume of feedback can be overwhelming for managers and team leaders. He emphasized that this often results in biased interpretations, with managers focusing on individual comments rather than identifying overarching themes within the team’s feedback.

This is why AI with open-text feedback capabilities is such a game-changer in the modern HR technology landscape.

How do the Qualtrics Comment Summaries work?

Qualtrics Comment Summaries utilizes the company’s proprietary AI to automatically compile and distill employee feedback into clear themes, enabling managers to swiftly recognize patterns and trends. These AI-generated summaries facilitate the analysis of open-text feedback at scale while maintaining employee anonymity.

By transforming feedback into actionable insights, Comment Summaries save time for HR and leadership, fostering a culture of trust and satisfaction in the workplace.

As a case study, we found Allstate’s testimonial on how Qualtrics Comment Summaries improved employee engagement in 2024.

Allstate encountered difficulties in processing employee feedback from open-text comments due to its large workforce. The lengthy review process restricted the number of surveys they could conduct annually. To overcome this challenge, Allstate adopted Qualtrics Comment Summaries, which provided an organized, automated, and impartial method for efficiently categorizing and summarizing extensive feedback. With this solution, Allstate was able to identify key themes in employee feedback within hours rather than weeks, allowing for more frequent survey touchpoints and promoting a continuous listening strategy.

Kiera Connerty, Global Employee Listening & Engagement Team Lead at Allstate said, “To turn something around within 48 hours, with our fresh data, for high-level executive board presentations is not something we’d been able to accomplish. We can now go beyond engagement and other scores, glean things employees are talking about, how they feel about them in such a short timeframe.”

The next addition is the “Qualtrics Conversational Feedback” for survey response listening and analytics.

Qualtrics Conversational Feedback enables organizations to maximize the value of their employee surveys.

Incomplete or unclear survey responses can waste time and resources, making it challenging to extract meaningful insights. Qualtrics Conversational Feedback leverages Qualtrics AI to identify vague answers and prompts respondents for further clarification.

In a controlled study, survey participants provided additional information 40% of the time when prompted by the AI. These new responses were significantly more detailed, containing nearly four times as many characters and addressing a broader range of topics. Notably, there was no increase in dropout rates or perceived burden among respondents.

By intelligently encouraging respondents to elaborate, HR teams and managers can turn employee feedback into more actionable insights, greatly enhancing the effectiveness of their surveys.
